You just recently joined IBM. What attracted you to work for this organization?
I was drawn towards IBM being a 100+ year old organization with rich heritage and a series of inventions and innovations. It’s the culture and ecosystem that allow creativity to flow in and enable teams to deliver their best. My thinking was validated during series of interviews I sat through. I walked out from our headquarters in Armonk about 4 weeks back with a sense of pride and deep appreciation for the organization and community I have become a part of.
Can you describe your role at IBM?
My role at IBM is to sell large deals to organizations leveraging IBM assets and capabilities. I need to understand the customer’s current situation, challenges and goals, and provide solutions relevant to their needs.
What are the most rewarding aspects of your role?
Winning deals is the best reward for me. In the journey to success, we go through a “deal life cycle” — starting from the identification of an opportunity, qualification, engagement, solution, and finally ending with the result. We draw in the talent globally, create our value propositions, execute a strategy and blend solutions to generate client impact. When all the hard work, patience, resilience and collective wisdom turn into a win, that’s the most satisfying moment for me.
What are your hobbies, interests, and passions outside of IBM?
I am passionate about my development. I thrive on targets; did a half marathon in 2014, mastered swimming in 2015, 100km biking in 2016. I also love to stay invested in my boys. My older son is a four-time British Chess Champion and has represented England in World Youth and European Chess Championships. The younger one loves playing musical instruments, singing, drama, chess and cricket.
I also dabble in writing. Watch out for my articles on LinkedIn, “Culture- when is it the right time to change?” and “Can my son be my guru?”
