By Daniel Bruton
Prior to starting with IBM I completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in International Business at the University of Wollongong, Australia. During my degree I also spent time studying at the University of Colorado in Boulder, USA as part of the university exchange program.
During my 12 months at IBM, I have been fortunate enough to experience several roles. I have spent most of my time in the commercial client executive team, covering New South Wales (NSW) ecosystem accounts. As of 2017, I have moved from the NSW ecosystem patch to digital enterprise accounts across the Financial Services Sector, Industrial, Distribution, and Communication industries. My time as a client executive has been a steep learning curve, however it has allowed me to deal extensively with different clients, as well as interact with various IBM brands.
Prior to my time in the client executive team, I was part of a number of projects across the different IBM business units. At the very beginning of my time at IBM I spent a period in the channel working on a partner mapping project. In conjunction with this, I also spent time in the lead development team within the digital business group working on a best practice project for lead nurturing. Outside of my day to day client executive role I have also participated in the Workday role project, social ambassador program, and the provided digital tool training to fellow colleagues at part of the Digital Bootcamp initiative.
There are many things I like about IBM, but the most relevant to me is the opportunities that I have been fortunate enough to be given in such a short period of time.
IBM is a large, diverse company with many highly skilled, knowledgeable people based all around the world. The opportunities that come with this type of company are endless, and the management staff that I work under have helped me gain access to as many of those opportunities as I can. Being in the role that I am in, and in a company that promotes education as much as IBM does, I learn something every day. Being in a sales role, one of the most interesting things I continue to learn is how to understand people. Also, while I began my role with no background in technology, I have learnt the extent to which technology is advancing and the upcoming applications of technology.
Daniel Bruton is a Digital Enterprise Client Executive in IBM Australia. Growing up, he spent all his spare time outside playing football, basketball, soccer, riding bikes, and any sport he could fit in. Despite being less involved in sports now, he still tries to participate whenever he can. He is also passionate about travel saying, “With every country that I visit, it seems the list of countries to visit just continues to grow”.
