IBMer Spotlight: Meet Yeshe Wingerd

Screen Shot 2018-03-22 at 11.49.08 AM.pngWe grab a coffee with IBMers from around the world, and share our chat in this weekly spotlight series. This week you can meet Yeshe, from IBM US.

In the morning, I like my coffee…
I like light roast coffee made in a french press with a touch of cream in the morning.

When I get up to go to work, I look forward to…
Catching up with my coworkers, brainstorming and creating with them, and building prototypes for user testing.

I am responsible for…
Bridging the gap between the highly technical side of things and our design team. Building prototypes in code to flesh out and iterate on designs, and put in front of users for feedback.

My typical day…
Involves critiquing and iterating on designs with coworkers, meeting with the development team, working on prototypes, and a couple of games of ping pong.

The coolest part of my job is…
The close and playful team dynamic. The constant learning and collaborating that I do with such creative and talented people.

The biggest challenge I have …
Balancing the design work, with furthering my skills as a developer. There never seems to be enough time in the week!

Most memorable moment in my career…
In my first weeks of working at IBM my team presented an accessibility project. After the presentation a fellow IBMer who was blind said that if we continued to put the kind of thought and attention to detail in our work that we did in that project that we would make the lives of people with disabilities much better. That was incredibly moving and showed me the kind of impact that is possible in my work.

Top piece of career advice…
Pursue the things you love. There are times where that can be scary, but there is nothing like the energy and satisfaction that you get when you are doing something you are passionate about. It’s contagious!
