We grab a coffee with IBMers from around the world, and share our chat in this weekly spotlight series. This week you can meet Tara, from IBM US.

In the morning, I like my coffee…
Coffee with lots of vanilla creamer (and probably a refill).

When I get up to go to work, I look forward to…
Prioritizing my goals and focus areas for the day.

I am responsible for…
Building Enterprise Blockchain billing solutions for IBM technical support services.  I work with IBM Client / Partners and billing experts to build innovative billing solutions leveraging the strengths of Blockchain.

My typical day…
Is spent interacting with team members from across the US, China, India and Argentina, as well as developing and bringing together solution components for projects we are working on.

The coolest part of my job is…
That one is easy, the people! I love working with IBMers, they are genuine people with a passion for technology and normally a good sense of humor 🙂

The biggest challenge I have …
Is workload management.  There is an endless list of things to do, the key is prioritization of that list, and learning to delegate where appropriate.

Most memorable moment in my career…
Honestly, the day I got my offer from IBM (16 years ago).  I was just graduating college and not sure exactly what path I was going to follow.  I got an internship then full-time offer from IBM that opened my career path and opportunities wide open.

Top piece of career advice…
Don’t be afraid to fail.  As a woman and perfectionist, this one was always the hardest for me.  It took me a while to embrace this concept and push myself far outside of my comfort zone. I love the saying ‘If you aren’t failing, you aren’t trying hard enough’.  Some of my best and most innovative ideas have come at the tail-end of a lessons learned failure.
